Before my little boy, Oliver, passed away I was one of THOSE people. I avoided people in grief because I didn’t know what to say and was sure I would say the wrong thing. Because of what I went through with Oliver, I now throw myself into the world of other people’s grief (well, respectfully, of course). While everyone is different in how they grieve, there are some basics in how to approach the grieving.
Megan Devine has experienced grief and created an excellent resource with her Refuge in Grief website. She has also written a book called It’s Okay That You’re Not Okay which is on my list of books to read. I’m offering two simple items from her to make dealing with those in grief easier. The first is a comic by Brittany Bilyeu and the second is a wonderful video. Read the comic. Watch the video. Then implement the advice.
